2048

Dealing the tiles…

How to play 2048

  1. Swipe β€” up, down, left or right. Every tile on the board slides that way at once, as far as it can go.
  2. When two tiles carrying the same number run into each other they merge into one tile worth double. That is the whole game.
  3. A new 2 (or occasionally a 4) appears after every move, so the board is always filling up. Reach the 2048 tile to win β€” and you can carry on afterwards.
  4. It ends when the board is full and nothing can merge. Keeping your biggest tile in one corner is the advice everybody gives, and it is right.

An example

A row reads 2 Β· 2 Β· 4 Β· β€” and you swipe left. The two 2s meet and become a 4, the old 4 slides up behind it, and you get 4 Β· 4 Β· β€” Β· β€” and 4 points. Swipe left again and those two make an 8. Note what did not happen on the first swipe: the new 4 did not immediately merge with the old one. A tile made this move cannot merge again until the next move β€” otherwise a row of four 2s would collapse straight to an 8.
