CLOVER

Reading the room…

How to play Clover

  1. One player is given several pairs of unrelated words and writes one word linking each pair.
  2. Everyone else then sees those clues and all the pairs shuffled together — plus decoy pairs that have no clue at all.
  3. Work out which pair each clue was for. Where solvers disagree, the majority decides.

An example

Your pair is Kettle & Volcano, so you write “erupt”. You could have written “hot” — but a decoy pair of Chutney & Bonfire is sitting on the table, and “hot” fits that just as well. The decoys are the whole difficulty.
