FACE DOWN

Reading the room…

How to play Face Down

  1. You each have four discs: three petals and one thorn. Everybody hides one at the same time.
  2. In turn you either hide another or bet — “I can turn over four and not find a thorn.” Others raise or pass; the last one betting has to do it.
  3. And they must clear their own pile first, all of it, before touching anybody else's.

An example

You bet 3. Your own pile is one petal, so that is one. You pick Bilal's top disc — petal, two. You pick Chetan's — thorn. You lose a disc at random. This is why burying your own thorn early is such a bad idea, and why doing it anyway is such a good bluff.
